High Tea: Olives and Plates

One gets so caught up in our busy lives, that we need to fill our cup. Take that necessary day out with the ladies and visit a magical place like Olives and Plates at Wits Club at the university. The selected venue for our high tea retreat.

O&P hosts a high tea on the first weekend of every month and it’s something you need to pre-book. The pictures are a recap of the wonderful time we had. On arrival, high tea started with non-alcoholic bubbly, a signature macaroon and a delicious panna cotta.

This was followed by a wide savoury selection – of which we opted for seafood and vegetarian. Everything was prepared to perfection. We started with what we thought would be our least favourite, caramelised butternut and Gorgonzola quiche with chilli compote. To be honest, this exceeded our expectations and had an explosion of flavours. Shows you to judge before you taste. The spread also included a salmon bagel, a classic cucumber and cheese sandwich, labneh and pawpaw and something like a Korean falafel boa buns.

The sun peaked slightly, in time for them to serve our patisserie selection outside under the gorgeous nomadic tent, with a chandelier darling. My faves included the berry mousse ganache cake with gold dusted hazelnuts and the Mille-feuille. But… the star of the show was the berry, lemon-zest butter (I actually packed it in the takeaway box and enjoyed it the next day).

High tea is served in Royal Albert crockery and there’s a selection of loose tea by Ronnefeldt. The service is good, the venue is great and the memories created are undeniably spectacular.

High tea is priced at R590 per person. My only recommendations for improvement is a live band like I experienced at the high tea at Anantara and an upgraded bathroom. I know it’s a university but we took amazing bathroom selfies at Fairlawns.
