Shining at the Oscars

The 87th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) was full of glitz and glamour this year, as the women draped themselves in carats of diamonds and bling – such that their dresses were a mere accessory to the jewels.

For me, Gwyneth Paltrow was the star of the evening, in a pale pink Raulph & Russo Couture gown. The one shoulder dress had a big beautiful rose detail, that was truly eye-catching. She completed the look with diamond encrusted chandelier earrings by Anna Hu.

White seemed to be a hit on the read carpet this year, as it was worn by Marion Cotillard, Lupita Nyongo’o, Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore. Marion had a silk Christian Dior Haute Couture gown and dressed it up with mega diamonds – 6.23 carat canary yellow diamond ring and a whopping 13.41 carat diamond hoops.

Lupita had on a pearl encrusted halter gown from the Calvin Klein collection. There were more than 6 000 pearls on the dress, and if that was not enough, she had on Chopard earrings.

Best Actress Winner, Julianne had a Chanel Haute Couture gown designed by Karl Largerfeld. The thought, detail and craftsmanship that went into the dresses this was jaw-dropping – as the dress had over 80 000 hand-painted sequence and blooms. Of course, the look could not be complete without 31 carats of bling by Chopard on her arm, ears… you get the point.

Margot Robbie, had a black plunging Saint Laurent gown and a vintage Van Cleef and Arpels jewel that was created for a royal duchess back in 1930. Margot said, “The necklace is worth more than my life…”

My last pic is Cate Blanchett, who wore a high-neck black Maison Margiela dress with a turquoise Tiffany and Co necklace – stunning!
